Blessed to be Western (Tom Swearingen)

Blessed to be Western
«Tom Swearingen»

How did those early settlers
To the west get this far
With no Map Quest or smart phone
Or Tom Tom in their car?

Well, some followed directions
 They’d gotten from someone
Some dead reckoned by the stars
 Or shadows of the sun

Some they came by dumb blind luck
 Or hired on a guide
Others joined in with the crowd
And come in with the tide

It’s somethin’ that they came west
Not sure just what they’d find
Or even how to get here
 Left all their world behind

No matter how they got here
Or what gave them the fire
I’m glad my kin came out west
 And sparked in me desire

To ride the open prairies
 And over mountain trails
 To love western heritage
 And all that it entails

Thank’s for set’lin in the west
 And planting my roots here
I am blessed to be western
It’s all that I hold dear
